PQS recently completed a high-resolution 3D laser scan of a former school building and its surrounding grounds using the CHCnav RS10—and the results speak for themselves.
This wasn’t just another scan job. The site included a mix of aged structures, layered elevation changes, and hard-to-reach external features. In the past, this type of project would have required multiple days on-site and a lot of head-scratching back at the office.
Instead? We captured everything in a single visit and delivered a full-colour point cloud fly-through that gave our client an incredibly detailed and accurate digital twin of the entire site.
Why 3D Scanning Was the Right Choice
Traditional 2D surveys can fall short when working with older, more complex buildings. You miss angles. You miss context. You miss opportunity.
Here’s what the 3D scan delivered:
🏫 A complete external survey of the school building and surrounding landscape
📐 Millimetre-level accuracy for every corner, ridge, and elevation
🕹️ A fully interactive point cloud fly-through—perfect for remote planning or presentations
💡 Ready-to-use data for architects, engineers, and planners
Whether the goal is renovation, demolition, or redevelopment, this level of detail gives every stakeholder a shared, crystal-clear view of the site—no guesswork required.
A Faster, Smarter Workflow
The RS10’s mobile mapping capability meant we didn’t need to close off access to the area or bring in bulky scanning rigs. It’s a lightweight solution with heavyweight results—especially on complex or historic projects like this.
We scanned the full site in a fraction of the time a traditional workflow would take, and we delivered rich, visual data that allowed our client to begin planning immediately.
Bringing Buildings Back to Life—Digitally
We love projects like this—where heritage meets technology.Laser scanning doesn’t just document what’s there—it captures the spirit of the site and preserves it for future generations (or future projects).
So if you're working on a heritage redevelopment, an urban planning proposal, or just want better data before making big decisions, we’ve got the tools—and the team—to make it happen.
